Garth Brooks and a former employee will square off in a Nashville court tomorrow (Tuesday, February 11th) over money. Brooks and Lisa Sanderson, the CEO of his former movie and television production company, Red Strokes Inc., are in dispute over $226,000. Brooks says it was a loan to help pay Sanderson's legal bills dating back to 2005 when she was going through a divorce and dealing with a bitter custody battle. Sanderson claims it was a gift from Brooks, who allegedly told her "over and over again that . . . Sanderson would never have to repay him for the legal fees.”
The Tennessean reports that Sanderson says that as a producing partner in the enterprise, she is also entitled to a production fee and a severance or retirement payment from Red Strokes, which Brooks closed down in 2010.
Brooks and Red Strokes are suing for repayment of the funds in addition to interest, attorney’s fees and costs of collection.
